Composting can be one of the most visible sustainability actions an organization can take—but it’s also one of the easiest to implement poorly. This session provides a practical roadmap for building a composting and food waste diversion system that people will actually use. We’ll explore the most common failure points (contamination, unclear roles, inconvenient setup, staff burnout, and “wishful thinking” signage) and what to do instead. Participants will learn how to choose the right composting approach for their context, design simple workflows, train teams effectively, and build engagement through education and culture—not enforcement. This session is designed for real-world settings like camps, schools, workplaces, and community programs.
