In this keynote, Ralph Chami argues that nature is one of the world’s most valuable yet overlooked economic assets. From coral reefs in Mauritius to forests, wetlands, and oceans worldwide, ecosystems generate income, jobs, tax revenues, and financial stability—yet remain absent from sovereign balance sheets. Drawing on real-country examples, he shows how recognizing natural capital and ecosystem revenues can expand fiscal space, improve debt sustainability, lower borrowing costs, and strengthen long-term resilience. The keynote offers a practical new framework—Regenerative GDP (ReGDP)—to help governments measure true wealth, align growth with stewardship, and turn planetary tipping points into economic turning points.
