Bruce Makous, MA, ChFC, CAP, CFRE, is a nationally recognized expert in major gifts, planned giving, and donor-advised fund strategy, with more than four decades of experience in nonprofit advancement. He most recently served as Chief Advancement Officer at Society for Science in Washington, DC, and has held senior development leadership roles across medical research, civil liberties, higher education, and national nonprofit organizations.
Bruce has been recognized by The NonProfit Times as one of the most influential fundraisers in the United States and has taught charitable and philanthropic planning in The American College’s Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) graduate program. He has authored textbook chapters and widely cited articles on donor behavior, planned giving, and DAF strategy, and has served in national and international leadership roles within the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.
