David Cary spent over thirty years in financial services with one of the largest investment banks in the world, assisting entrepreneurial families with wealth management and estate planning; building and exiting businesses; responsible management of philanthropic efforts; and creative strategies for blending the above for greater impact. As part of a private wealth team, David interacted with investment banking and corporate finance. This experience gave him a rare view of capital and its evolution. That led him to creating HighGround Ranch Developers (HRD) with a mission of improving the environment by improving the food system through a network of ranches which use grazing methods that regenerate the soil. David structured HRD such that it can maximize impact by working with all types of capital – investment, philanthropic, corporate, and government.
The first in his family to graduate college, David has an undergraduate degree in Accounting and MBA in Finance. His career began as the first full-time accounting employee of a startup computer software retailer which pioneered the computer superstore concept and eventually went public. 
David and his wife, Valerie, have been married since 1987 and have three grown children – a CPA, a software engineer and a marketing executive - along with three grandchildren. Their middle child has experienced two heart transplants and cancer, so David speaks and writes about surviving and appreciating life’s challenges. He enjoys travel, exercise, writing, playing the piano, cooking and not cleaning the kitchen afterwards.
