Charles A. DeMonaco is Senior Counsel in Fox Rothschild’s Litigation Department and a former Chair of the firm’s White-Collar Criminal Defense & Regulatory Compliance Practice. Based in Pittsburgh, he maintains a broad national practice focused on corporate internal investigations, securities litigation, complex commercial disputes, corporate governance, environmental law, ESG matters, and white-collar criminal defense.
Charles represents both corporate and individual clients in high-stakes civil and criminal matters, including fiduciary duty litigation, securities fraud, qui tam actions, Bivens claims, and internal investigations. He also represents clients in significant federal environmental litigation, including matters relating to restoration of the Florida Everglades. He is an active member of the firm’s International Law, ESG, and Environmental Law Practice Groups, and regularly advises on cross-border and regulatory issues.
Before joining Fox Rothschild, Charles served as Assistant Chief of the Environmental Crimes Section at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he was lead counsel for the United States in the prosecution of U.S. v. Exxon and Exxon Shipping Co. arising from the Exxon Valdez oil spill—the largest environmental settlement in U.S. history at the time. His extensive public service also includes roles as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Chief of Special Prosecutions and White Collar Crime, and Assistant District Attorney.
A frequent speaker and author, Charles has been widely quoted by national media and teaches Conflict of Laws as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
