Hans Van Sumeren is the Senior Director of the Ocean Enterprise Initiative at the Marine Technology Society and past founding Executive Director of the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute in Traverse City, Michigan.  Prior to this, Hans worked at the University of Michigan in the Ocean Engineering Laboratory and the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratories leading laboratory and field investigations across North America. Hans is the MTS Great Lakes section chair and former trustee at large with The Hydrographic Society of America.  He completed a BSE and MSE in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan.
